Out-of-hospital midwifery birth care, at your home or in our Mairuna birth space, is born from this conviction: that the place where you give birth to your child profoundly influences how you experience it. We are here with the clinical skills required, with the safety equipment, with years of experience. But above all we are here to protect the space in which your body and your baby do what they know how to do.
The place where you give birth is not a logistical detail — it is an active part of the experience. At your home, surrounded by your things, your scents, your intimacy. Or at our Mairuna birth space, a space designed to welcome birth with all the warmth of a home and all the safety of a professional environment.
In both cases, you choose how to move, when to eat, who to have beside you. No protocol decides for you. Your body leads; we listen.
You won’t meet your midwife on the day of birth. You will meet her long before: during the visits, the conversations, the creation of the birth plan. When the moment comes, she will be someone you trust deeply, who knows your story, your body, your wishes.
Continuous midwifery care means exactly this: the same person accompanies you from pregnancy to birth and beyond. A relationship, not a service. And at the birth two midwives will be present — for clinical collaboration, mutual support, and emergency management — because safety is never a compromise.
Sometimes birth doesn’t follow the plan. Sometimes a hospital transfer is necessary, an intervention, a change of course. It is part of the reality of birth, and we are prepared for this too — with clear safety protocols, with the collaboration of local hospital facilities, and above all without ever leaving you alone.
A change of plan is not a failure. It is a different birth, one that deserves the same dignity and the same love.
For low-risk pregnancies, the scientific evidence shows that home birth with qualified midwifery care is as safe as hospital birth, with significantly lower rates of unnecessary interventions. We assess your clinical situation together throughout the pathway.
We have clear transfer protocols and collaborate with local hospital facilities. If a transfer becomes necessary, we don’t leave you: we accompany you to hospital and stay with you throughout. It happens rarely, but we are always prepared.
The decision is always yours, but it is based on a shared clinical assessment. During your antenatal visits we monitor all the parameters that confirm eligibility for out-of-hospital birth. If conditions arise that advise against it, we tell you transparently and guide you towards the safest option.
You decide who will be there. Your partner, your mother, a friend, your other children: at your home or at the Mairuna birth space, the space is yours and the choices are yours. We discuss it together while preparing the birth plan.
